Jumping Off Pont for Hadrian's Wall Hike
Excellent. Steve and Neil run a wonderful Bed and Breakfast, with quaintly named rooms after English authors. The Breakfast was overwhelming....great! We received a packed lunch to start our hike and it was also first class. The room was clean, bright and comfortable. I would stay here again Steve provided good insight into the start of our hike.

Owner went over and above to help us have a brilliant day out
I tried for quite a while to find a café where I could book a table for 7 ladies to have tea and cake on a Sunday afternoon. Most would only offer us a reservation if we were booking for a full afternoon tea ... Afternoon tea was not suitable as one of our party is recovering from a serious illness and this was going to be her first foray out with us for several months so we couldn't go too far for too long.
Stephen the owner of Café 61 was amazing. He arranged for us to have tea and cakes in his private sitting room which was perfect for us under the circumstances. We had beautiful tea and coffee served in lovely china cups as well as the most scrumptious scones and cakes - (Including one of the best gluten free scones I have tasted in a long while) . Everyone agreed that the food was delicious and the staff were kind courteous and attentive to our every need.
We couldn't have asked for more and will certainly be going back to see the marvellous Stephen and his magnificent team at Café 61 - Thank you

Best guest house I have ever stayed in.
A friendly warm welcome by the owner and I was shown to a very comfortable spotless well designed room. Comfortable bed , even a hot water bottle if needed was provided. Asiiting area and table too The room had a super view over the mouth of the Tyne and Collingwoods monument and was absolutely quiet no noise of traffic or any other noises . A full blind aided sleep on these light mornings and a very adequate en suite.

There was an Excellent breakfast with a wide choice chosen from the menu the previous evening which I fully approved of as saves wasted food being unnecessarily cooked.
Overall I would thourally recommend anyone to stay here. The history of the guest house added further interest with the knowledge that Dickens Bronte Lady Jane Byron to name but a few have stayed here in the past.

Great place to stay

We stayed in the Collingwood room, extremely comfortable bed, lovely large bright room with panoramic views especially when the sun did finally come out! Stephen and his partner (didn't catch his name) were both very helpful with lots of suggestions of things to do and places to eat. Breakfast was great, first day we both had the full English, second day I had the pancake and husband had poached eggs on toast, both delicious.

In summary, this bed and breakfast is in a perfect location, breakfast is good, bed very comfortable, what more do you need?

An Unexpectedly Nice Little Gem In The Crown That Is Tynemouth.

I booked a room here on spec, a year in advance, for my adult son and I as we were travelling to the area for the Finals of European Rugby.

The reviews all praised both the accommodation and the food (Breakfast and, if wanted, afternoon tea) but did not prepare us for the great experience we had.

The rooms are comfortable, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean.

The breakfasts are well cooked generous and presented with the same style and quality as everything else.

No.61 is one of those places you are in two minds about reviewing; you want to give the proprietors the praise and kudos they deserve but, then again, you want to keep the secret for yourself (I have just looked at booking another weekend so my wife can share the experience but am finding September fully booked)!

Thank you Steven and Neil, you deserve every success.

Jewel in the crown of Tynemouth!

Stayed here for one night break with my husband! Stayed in the Dickens room which is at the rear of the premises, overlooks fabulous views of the Tyne Mouth, and South shields. The room was immaculate, everything one could need to ensure comfort was provided. There is plenty to do in the village, bars and eateries, gift shops etc. Breakfast was a joy, and we were greeted by both hosts who told us the history of this 1750 building, quite a story! The lovely little touches around the place made the stay a pleasure, and you can see how much the place is loved! Good luck to both of you in the future, you both deserve No 61, to be a great success!
