Absolutely perfect with a very warm welcome
We have just stayed here for two nights while visiting friends in Tynemouth. We had the most wonderful weekend in this gorgeous guest house and were made to feel very welcome - like old friends. The room was comfortable, well equiped and tasteful with plenty of cupboard space, overlooking the front, but still very quiet. Breakfast was perfect with as much tea coffee and toast as you wanted. Stephen was the perfect host, so funny and warm, that after talking to him we lost track of time and had to dash out and were late meeting our friends! The location couldn't have been better, right in the middle of the village with everything close by - shops, cafes, bars, market, metro and taxis all surrounded by sea and history! We even had the sun in November! I have never felt so "at home" and look forward to coming back. Stephen and Neil are definItely another "plus" for Tynemouth

Great place, great location!
My husband and I recently stayed at Tynemouth 61 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our hosts were very charming, as is the house, and we loved our room with its view of the Priory, the statue of Lord Collingwood and the River Tyne. Breakfasts were a highlight - scrambled eggs were done perfectly but once I'd tried the pancake and fruit I was hooked. My husband enjoyed chef Neil's full English breakfast. We were sorry not to be there at the weekend when the tea shop is open. As a location, Tynemouth is hard to beat - the guest house is a short walk from the Metro so it's easy to get to and from Newcastle, while we enjoyed walks to Whitley Bay and Cullercoats and along the Tyne to the Fish Quay in North Shields. Tynemouth also has a renowned market every weekend in the lovely Victorian station building. It's great for restaurants too, and particularly good if you like fish and seafood, with lots of places on the doorstep. Hope to return one day!

A Home away from Home
I highly recommend staying at Tynemouth 61 if you are in this area or even nearby. The Georgian guest house has been renovated to have all the mod cons inside while still maintaining its character. Out the back is a little private garden with tables and chairs and lots of bright flowers and plenty of greenery to enjoy - very peaceful. The owner, Steve is incredibly helpful as are the other hosts who are so very willing to share their own experiences of their home area and what might work for each person. The room I had was the Garibaldi which looked out over the quaint street in the front. It is within walking distance of some of the attractions in Tynemouth ie the Pier, the Castle and Priory etc. and there are numerous cafes and restaurants to choose from. The breakfast was amazing with an order form to complete the night before so you can be sure to get your choices. The room was incredibly comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and little snacks. There was plenty of hot water for the shower and a towel heating rail in the ensuite bathroom.
Thanks so much for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in a wonderful place with such a friendly atmosphere.

We were met by the hosts on arrival and made to feel at home immediately. The location is wonderful, smack bang in the middle of the high street and a short walk to the castle and beach. The accomodation was excellent, very clean, lovely decor and so quiet. The bed was a sleep magnet and so comfortable. The tea rooms and garden were just lovely with a fine selection of delicious food. We will definitely return!! Without a doubt the best B&B we have stayed at!!!

Lovely overnight stay

Eight of us arrived at 61 after completing the coast to coast cycle- exhausted and soaked with 8 bikes in tow! We received the warmest of welcomes from Barbara - nothing was too much trouble and we were not made to feel at all a nuisance despite all our wet clothes, shoes etc.

Our room was the Dickens room and was just beautiful - I had the best night’s sleep in ages - so comfy and quiet. Our breakfast was wonderful and the service very good. I would definitely stay here again!

Jumping Off Pont for Hadrian's Wall Hike
Excellent. Steve and Neil run a wonderful Bed and Breakfast, with quaintly named rooms after English authors. The Breakfast was overwhelming....great! We received a packed lunch to start our hike and it was also first class. The room was clean, bright and comfortable. I would stay here again Steve provided good insight into the start of our hike.
