tynemouth
Tynemouth is an area of outstanding natural beauty with stunning beaches permitting a wide range of water sports, including surfing, sailing, windsurfing, jet-ski, sub-aqua, swimming, kayaking and canoeing.
Prominent on the headland overlooking the river are the Tynemouth Priory and Castle, dating back to the 11th Century. The village itself is now a conservation area mostly comprised of buildings from the 18th and 19th Century.
Newcastle upon Tyne is approximately 9 miles away and easily accessible from Tynemouth via metro and bus services.
Tynemouth village boasts a wide range of independent bars and restaurants including the renowned Riley’s Fish Shack on King Edward’s Bay. You will also find a great selection of independently-owned boutique stores and businesses all on the doorstep of Tynemouth 61. There is also a vibrant market at the Tynemouth Metro Station every weekend.

Posted on Gillian JOctober 28, 2025.Verified What a lovely find We stayed at No 61 on Saturday 25th October. We arrived about 3pm and received a warm welcome. Our room was beautiful and overlooked the high street. There is so much attention to detail here. I have never had such fluffy and thick towels. The bed was super comfortable with plenty of pillows. There was a lovely touch of having ‘proper’ coffee and a cafetière in the room. Although the room overlooked the high street there was no noise. Included in the room rate was a lovely cold bottle of Prosecco and a delicious cooked breakfast in the morning. The owner was super friendly , the guest house was decorated in a welcoming way. It was also super clean. Location wise No 61 is perfect. Slap bang in middle of high street that has lots of bars snd restaurants and 1 minute from the castle. We walked to North Shields for dinner which was just under a mile, On Sunday morning there is a huge craft fair in the metro station which was an added bonus, No 61 is a fabulous place and we will be back,Posted on Geoff SOctober 23, 2025.Verified The best place we have ever stayed at! My wife and I stayed at the #61 for the 2nd time. Stephen, Neil and the entire staff were amazing as always. Barbra was lovely to deal with. Always smiling and up for a chat. The Collingwood and Dickens rooms are our favorites. All the rooms have amazing views of the town, or the coast. Never disappointed. Their breakfast sets you up for the day. They do and have done everything they can to make your stay a great one. Cannot wait until next year. Thankyou again to the entire staff.❤Posted on Beverley WSeptember 30, 2025.Verified 11/10 My husband and I discovered No 61 after staying many times at a hotel in Tynemouth. No 61 beats anywhere in Tynemouth 100 percent. On arrival we were greeted by Stephen one of the owners, he made us feel so welcome immediately. We were taken to our room which was the Collingwood which has a balcony and sea views, the room was so tastefully decorated, immaculate and so boutique and the view is amazing. At breakfast we met Neil and Stephen again, there was an array of breakfast choices which were cooked beautifully by Neil. No 61 is also in the main street of Tynemouth but there was absolutely no noise at all, just perfect. We have booked again to stay.Posted on Sue HSeptember 29, 2025.Verified Really would recommend this as a great place to stay. Beautiful B&B in the centre of a beautiful town. Our room has a balcony with views over the sea and Priory. Fab in the morning when the sun is coming up. Room has great facilities and was serviced whilst we had breakfast! And speaking of breakfast - that was really well cooked and served by the friendly owners. Really comfy bed and peaceful night.Posted on Alan & KathSeptember 22, 2025.Verified Excellent 2 day break. We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our Anniversary, everything was perfect even gave us a couple of bottles of prosecco and a card. Stephen was the perfect host and the breakfast choice was excellent and everything was spotless. We would definitely stay again.Posted on Frances1EdinburghAugust 31, 2025.Verified Fabulous gem of a guesthouse in the heart of Tynemouth An absolute gem in the very heart of Tynemouth, situated on Front Street, a stones throw from the Tynemouth Priory, seafront and the impressive array of bars, restaurants and independent quirky shops. The staff are like family. So lovely and they do everything to ensure you have a brilliant stay. The rooms are spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, and unbelievably comfortable. You'll find things here you would normally only expect from a 5 star hotel. The breakfast cooked by Neil is the best breakfast ever. All fresh local produce is cooked fresh to order. Just fill in the book the night before what you want and what time you want it. It never disappoints. 5 minutes walk to Tynemouth train station which has a fantastic market every Saturday and Sunday. Also the Metro to take you to Newcastle, Whitley Bay, etc. You can walk along the seafront to North Shields to the right, or Whitley Bay to the left. I cannot recommend this guesthouse highly enough.Posted on Janet MAugust 24, 2025.Verified Fantastic What a beautiful afternoon tea. My daughter had a gift voucher given as a birthday treat, she took me and her miniature schnauzer and we sat in the tea garden. Nice brown bread sandwiches (cheese /pickle and cheese savoury) plenty of choice. We chose cherry and fruit scones but you could have had cheese, plenty of clotted cream and jam. A good selection of cakes but we both chose coffee and walnut so moist. Coffee and tea refillable.Posted on Tonyl1234August 20, 2025.Verified Another great stay at No 61 Tynemouth We always stay at No 61 Tynemouth when we visit Tynemouth and wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else. This lovely period guest house is situated right in the middle of the buzzy main street of Tynemouth which is lined with excellent restaurants. It is also minutes walk from the beach and metro station. We stayed In the Collingwood room which is our favourite. Very comfortably furnished with a balcony which has views over the sea, Tynemouth Castle and Collingwood’s monument, hence its name. Breakfast is served in the delightful tea/breakfast room, the menu is extensive and the food excellent. Delicious afternoon teas and light lunches are also served here. There is also a lovely tea garden for nice days. The owners Stephen and Neil are great hosts and look after their guests very well, they have expert knowledge of the whole area so are very helpful suggesting places and restaurants to visit. Looking forward to next year.Posted on zzzzoeJuly 12, 2025.Verified Great place! Friendly welcome, amazing location, lovely rooms, excellent breakfast Despite being on main road with lots of bars, surprisingly quietPosted on WoodbridgeWanderersJune 29, 2025.Verified Perfect stay with great hosts This is an excellent guest house in a great location. Our room was clean, comfortable, well appointed and spacious, and breakfast was very good every morning, cooked to order. Hosts Stephen and Neil are friendly, professional and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. There are numerous good cafes and restaurants located within seconds of the front door. Also recommend the afternoon tea served at weekends!Load moreTripadvisor rating score: 4.9 of 5, based on 196 reviews
