tynemouth
Tynemouth is an area of outstanding natural beauty with stunning beaches permitting a wide range of water sports, including surfing, sailing, windsurfing, jet-ski, sub-aqua, swimming, kayaking and canoeing.
Prominent on the headland overlooking the river are the Tynemouth Priory and Castle, dating back to the 11th Century. The village itself is now a conservation area mostly comprised of buildings from the 18th and 19th Century.
Newcastle upon Tyne is approximately 9 miles away and easily accessible from Tynemouth via metro and bus services.
Tynemouth village boasts a wide range of independent bars and restaurants including the renowned Riley’s Fish Shack on King Edward’s Bay. You will also find a great selection of independently-owned boutique stores and businesses all on the doorstep of Tynemouth 61. There is also a vibrant market at the Tynemouth Metro Station every weekend.

WoodbridgeWanderersJune 29, 2025.Verified Perfect stay with great hosts This is an excellent guest house in a great location. Our room was clean, comfortable, well appointed and spacious, and breakfast was very good every morning, cooked to order. Hosts Stephen and Neil are friendly, professional and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. There are numerous good cafes and restaurants located within seconds of the front door. Also recommend the afternoon tea served at weekends! Des JJune 2, 2025.Verified A good way to start a walk We stayed a night prior to embarking on the 6 day Hadrian's Wall walk across England. Our room was very comfortable and there was absolutely no noise from the street. Stephen's welcome was warm and thorough, giving us excellent recommendations for an evening meal and the selection form breakfast was extensive. Ray WMay 20, 2025.Verified Great overnight stay Stayed overnight before we set off on our cross country walk. Room was lovely and we got a full run down of all our options for an evening meal. Breakfast in the lovely tea room was cooked to order, delicious and beautifully presented. Would heartily recommend GDEF99April 20, 2025.Verified Saturday Wedding First time in this fabulous guesthouse/ hotel myself & my girlfriend stayed one night at this guesthouse we traveled for her God Daughter’s wedding the room was clean & tidy with a great view of the coast there was a small outside balcony with table & chairs to chill out drink beverages of your choice . The owner was friendly we had breakfast on the Sunday I had the english breakfast my girlfriend had poached eggs on toast Sarah SApril 15, 2025.Verified Lovely stay, would recommend I had a visit booked which had to be brought forward at short notice due to some sad personal circumstances. I dealt with Stephen who was fantastic, he was extremely kind at a difficult time and nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely, very clean, a very comfortable bed and good facilities. I needed a space to be able to relax and regroup over a few challenging days and this was perfect. There was a good choice for breakfast, everything was freshly cooked and delicious. I chose to park directly outside the hotel on the main road and the hotel supplied the daily parking pass (£7 per day) which was worth the money for the convenience of not moving my car, but that is personal choice as think there is free parking within a short walk of the hotel. The hotel is well situated in Tynemouth, a very short walk to the beach and close to restaurants, some bars and a nice cafe. Despite this and having a window out to the front of the hotel I didn't find it noisy at all. I need to make a return trip towards the end of the month and didn't hesitate to book to stay here again. A really big thank you to Stephen in particular for my experience during my stay, your compassion was much appreciated and the hotel is a lovely place to stay. MWGerardJanuary 13, 2025.Verified Charming inn in Tynemouth We stayed two nights at this lovely, quiet spot. Our room (Dickens) offered amazing views of the Tyne and South Shields. The decor was beautiful and all the rooms are named after literary figures. It is located on the main street in historic Tynemouth, just steps from the priory. It is also an easy walk up the promenade to Whitley Bay and other small coves. Barbara was a wonderful host and breakfast cook. Hon1997December 9, 2024.Verified Amazing afternoon tea! What a lovely tea room and a fabulous afternoon tea! There was lots of choice for vegetarians, and being able to choose a sandwich instead of just standard offerings was a really nice change. We’d been gifted a voucher for and there was no difficulties using this and the steps were made clear via the initial call on what was required for them to be able to process the voucher. The staff were so friendly, there was a person training who took our order and she did really well, everything was as we had requested. We will definitely return and will absolutely suggest for a place to stay if family or friends are visiting! David GNovember 30, 2024.Verified Still a gem This was the 3rd time we have stayed at no 61, but only the first with Stephen in charge. The experience was just as good as ever and the only regret was that we wished we could have stayed longer. The location is pretty perfect but I guess it may be a bit noisy at busy times it is a 5 minute walk to the beach and there are plenty of eating/ drinking places nearby. Stephen is attentive to guest needs and the whole stay was very comfortable. lilyburg1958November 17, 2024.Verified Fabulous afternoon tea Afternoon Tea at this gorgeous little tea room. Absolutely fantastic. Best I've had. The sandwiches were scrumptious made fresh with the freshest bread. Scones and cakes were equally as good. Service was 1st class. 100% recommend. Will definitely be returning meridianmeridianOctober 19, 2024.Verified Beautiful place We stayed in the garibaldi room which was lovely. Immaculately clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. It was a little on the small side but as we were only staying for one night it was perfect for what we needed but if we had been staying any longer a slightly bigger room would of been more comfortable. The host was very friendly and helpful with parking advice and local bars and markets. The breakfast was outstanding and again fantastic service. We will definitely return to this gorgeous little place and the gorgeous town of tynemouth Thank you for a lovely stay ❤️Load moreTripadvisor rating score: 4.9 of 5, based on 187 reviews
