The Guesthouse & Tea Room are housed in a Georgian building (circa 1750) which means we have to be accommodating to its design and therefore we do not have any lift facilities.  There are over 60 steps inside the building and the guest bedrooms are split over seven floors, alternating between the front & back of the house.  For those with mobility issues we would recommend booking one of the lower level rooms.  Please click here which will take you to a layout of the building which will enable you to decide whether Tynemouth 61 would be suitable for your stay.

Access to the guesthouse is via three steps  from street level to the the front door so, unfortunately, it is not accessible to guests who are completely wheelchair bound.  There is wheelchair access to the Tea Garden via Promenade Terrace which leads to the garden gate.  However, there is no access to the facilities from the garden due to its layout and two sets of steep steps.

For wheelchair users with limited mobility we are always on hand to assist with getting in/out of the building and on the stairs.

We are unable to accept dogs in the Guesthouse.

However, well-behaved dogs and their owners are welcome in the Tea Garden.

Smaller dogs only are welcome in the Tea Room when it’s not too crowded.

Bookings can be made directly through this website or by phoning 0191 257 3687.  Please note phones are manned between 10am and 7pm only.  If you phone outside these hours, please leave a message & contact number and we will get back to you as soon as possible during the working day from 10am onwards.  Please note we are busy serving breakfast from 8am to 9.30am every day.

We require a deposit of £25 per room, per night to confirm your booking. Payable at the time of booking.

Cancellation more than 7 days prior to date of arrival:
If you cancel more than 7 days prior to the date of your arrival and we are able to resell your room(s), we will transfer any deposit paid towards an alternative booking within one year of your original booking date.

If we are unable to resell your room, then any deposit paid will be forfeit.

Cancellation from 7 days up to 48 hours before date of arrival:
If you cancel within 7 days but more than 48 hours prior to the date of your arrival, your deposit will be forfeit.

Cancellation within 48 hours of date of arrival:
If you cancel within 48 hours before your date of arrival, full payment for your booking will be taken. If we are able to resell your room(s), then we will email you to arrange a refund less any deposit paid.

For special events within the calendar e.g. The Great North Run or The Mouth of the Tyne Festival we may ask for full payment in advance and any cancellation policy will be discussed with you at the time of booking.

Please contact us directly to discuss any group bookings.

Check-in is between 4.00pm and 7.00pm, however, if you intend to arrive outside these hours or wish to drop your bags off, please can you contact us at least 24 hours in advance.  We will endeavour to accommodate your wishes where possible.  We are often away from the property between the hours of 11.00am and 3.00pm as this is the only time we are free to do food-shopping and other work-related or personal activities.

Our tea room is open on Saturdays & Sundays, so you will be able to check in or leave your bags earlier on these days.  Guestrooms should be available from around 1.00pm onwards.

We kindly ask that guests vacate their room by 10.30am. We can sometimes extend this to 11.00am depending on occupancy, so please let us know if you would prefer a later check-out. If you are remaining in the local area on the day of check-out, please let us know if you would like to store your luggage at the guesthouse for the day.

Public parking is available on Front Street outside the guesthouse. This is metered from 9.00am to 5.30pm every day and currently costs £1.20 per hour, however, there is a two-hour maximum permitted stay.  There is some free car parking available a 10-15minute walk from the property on Tynemouth Road, just beyond Kwik-Fit in the direction of North Shields.

Please click here to see North Tyneside Council’s information about on- and off-street parking in the area.

Alternatively, we can sell you a B&B parking voucher for £8.50 which covers the whole metered period from 9.00am to 5.30pm with no requirement to move your car after two hours. If you are staying with us several days and wish to leave your car on Front Street, then you will need to purchase a B&B parking voucher from us for each day and the start of the metered period from 9.00am (i.e. the vouchers are NOT valid for a 24-hour period from the time of purchase).

Please note we are often away from the property between the hours of 11.00am and 3.00pm as this is the only time we are free to do food shopping and other work-related activities.  Therefore, we may not always be available to check you in and sell you a B&B parking voucher if you arrive before 4.00pm.  However, our tea room is open on Saturdays & Sundays so you will be able to check in earlier on these days and rooms should be ready from around 1.00pm onwards.

If you are on a cycling holiday, then we are able to store your bicycle overnight in our garden.

It is a Victorian walled garden with high walls.  The garden gate is locked and there is an alleyway leading on to Front Street.  The entrance to the alleyway also has a gate which is locked overnight from 8pm to 8am.

For additional security, we have CCTV in operation throughout the communal areas of the guesthouse including the garden.

However, bicycles are left at the owner’s risk and Tynemouth 61 is unable to accept responsibility for any accident, damage or loss incurred.

N.B. Bicycles are stored outdoors in the garden.  We do not have any facilities to store bicycles inside the building and you will need to provide your own saddle or bicycle covers etc. should you require these.

Electric bikes can also be stored in the garden.  If you have a detachable power unit, then you may charge this overnight in your guestroom free of charge.  However, if the unit is not detachable, we will be able to charge this overnight in the garden for you but there will be a £5.00 charge for this service.

Tynemouth Metro Station is a 5 to 10-minute walk from the house. The Metro is easy to use and provides an inexpensive travel service for the local area, including Newcastle city centre, the mainline train station and airport.

All of the following eateries are on Front Street or within easy-walking distance!  Following the covid pandemic, most restaurants tend to take bookings via their websites rather than by telephone.  We would highly recommend booking in advance to ensure you have an all-round fantastic stay in Tynemouth Village.

As there is such a fantastic choice of eateries on our doorstep, we offer breakfast service only at Tynemouth 61. We provide a self-service cold buffet as well as pre-ordered cooked breakfasts. Our full english breakfast is suitable for a gluten free diet (apart from the black pudding) and we offer gluten-free bread/toast and vegetarian options. For vegans or those with dairy intolerances we are able to offer oat milk as an alternative. We regret that we are unable to offer a full range of preferences such as soya or almond milk etc. due to the high cost and wastage this often entails. Please let us know of any dietary intolerances in advance of your stay so that we are able to source alternatives in time. Please click here for our breakfast menu.

There is a taxi rank outside the Guesthouse on Front Street, however, if you need to book a taxi during your stay, please call +44 (0)191 258 7777.  All local taxi firms now belong to a consortium called ‘Nearby Taxis’ and they will source the nearest available taxi at the time of your booking.
